Some holidays have a date attached to them. A birthday that happens to fall on the Tuesday, ten years of marriage, the first fortnight of being married at all. Inside the TK Royal, in the InterContinental district, Soul Spa Wellness Club keeps a small number of private suites, booked one party at a time, for exactly that kind of afternoon. The drive from most central hotels takes a few minutes.
A private suite means the door closes behind the two of you. The sauna, the jacuzzi and the steam bath inside it belong to your booking alone for the full two hours, so nothing is timed around anyone else and there is no queue for the warm bench. You take the heat at your own pace. Then the scrub and the mask, and then the massage, both of you treated inside the suite rather than sent off to separate rooms. Afterwards there is herbal tea in the lounge before the drive back.
The three suites differ mainly in what goes on your skin. The birthday suite leaves the choices to you: two facial masks in whichever flavour appeals, and your pick of oil for the massage. The anniversary suite is chocolate the whole way through, scrub, mask and oil. The honeymoon suite is rose from the first minute to the last. Everything around them is identical: the same two hours, the same suite, the same therapists, the same tea at the end.
One thing worth reading twice: the price shown is what one person pays, and the suites are booked for a minimum of two, so a couple pays the figure twice. What that buys is fairly uncomplicated. Two hours with a door that shuts, nothing scheduled on the other side of it, and no decision left more taxing than how long to sit in the steam.

- Every price on this page is for one person. The suite is sold for a minimum of two people, so a couple pays the figure twice. Book for two so that nobody is turned away at the door.
- The birthday suite lets you pick the massage oil and the flavour of both facial masks when you arrive. The anniversary suite is chocolate throughout and the honeymoon suite is rose, oil included, which is what those two programs are built around. If you want the pressure or the focus of the massage adjusted, say so on arrival, at no extra cost.
- Women are treated by female therapists and men by male therapists. This is fixed spa policy rather than a preference you need to state, and it applies inside the private suites in the same way as everywhere else.
- Guests must be at least 12 years old, and anyone under 18 has to be accompanied by an adult. Infants and younger children cannot be treated.
- Appointments start on the hour at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00 and 20:00. The suite itself is yours for two hours; allow a little either side for changing, tea and the drive back.
- Hotel pickup and drop-off are included across central Hurghada. Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay and El Gouna are an add-on of EUR 10, Soma Bay and Safaga EUR 15. The spa is inside the TK Royal, in the InterContinental district.
- Tell us at the time of booking if you are pregnant or have an allergy, an injury or a medical condition, so the therapists can plan around it. Eat lightly beforehand and arrive hydrated. Bring swimwear for the sauna, jacuzzi and steam bath; robe, slippers, towels and toiletries are laid out for you.
