Makadi Bay Hammam and Full Spa Program with Massage
A hammam afternoon in Hurghada, booked from Makadi Bay with the drive handled in both directions. Five programs to choose between: heat, then the traditional glove, then dry sauna, herbal steam room and jacuzzi, and a full-body massage to close. The three shorter ones run two hours, the Chocolate and Ramses rituals two and a half.
Overview
A week in Makadi Bay tends to run on somebody else's clock. Breakfast before the queue, the water park by ten, the reef when the wind drops, dinner at whatever hour the youngest can manage. It is a good week, and by the middle of it you have not had a single hour that belonged to you. Soul Spa Wellness Club sits inside the TK Royal in the InterContinental district of Hurghada, about forty minutes north along the coast road, and the drive is written into the booking: a driver takes you from the lobby and brings you back to it. Every program on this page begins the same way, with heat.
You sit in the hammam while warm steam works through you, slowly, until the shoulders come down from around your ears. Then the glove: a full body scrub, brisk and methodical and mildly shocking the first time, followed by a rinse that leaves you several layers lighter than you went in. The dry sauna, the herbal steam room and the jacuzzi sit between treatments, used in whatever order you feel like. Every program ends the same way as well, in a quiet room, with a full-body massage.
The five programs differ mainly in what is worked into your skin and how long the whole thing lasts. The Turkish hammam is the plain original, milk mask and foam, about two hours. Cleopatra puts coconut soap where the milk was and adds a face mask; the Moroccan turns to coffee soap and a coffee scrub, which smells exactly as good as it sounds. Above them sit two rituals of two and a half hours, halved between bathing and massage: the Ramses, which sends you through a second hammam as well as the first, and the Chocolate, whose scrub is cocoa and coconut.
The bay is a closed world, which is most of its appeal and also the reason an afternoon like this has to be decided on rather than wandered into. There is no gate to slip out of and no hammam down the road. Booking it from Makadi Bay turns the whole thing into one arrangement, hotel to hammam and back, and hands you the only appointment of the week that nobody else is invited to.
None of this is a modern idea. The hammam is how this part of the world has bathed for centuries, heat first, then the scrub, then the long rest, and the order has survived because it does what it says. What a hammam program really offers is not a list of treatments but a change of pace: two hours or more with nothing else scheduled, the phone left behind, and only one thing left to decide, which is how much pressure you want.

- On the two longest rituals the massage runs to 75 minutes instead of the usual hour

Good to know
- Child price: ages 12-17 ยท Infants not permitted
- Every program closes with a full-body massage, and the style is settled with your therapist on arrival at no extra charge. Tell them what the week has done to you and how firm you want it. Hot stones falls outside that free choice and can be added to the booking for EUR 5.
- Female therapists treat women and male therapists treat men, on every program and every treatment. The policy is fixed, so nothing needs to be requested.
- Treatment is limited to guests aged 12 and over. Anyone under 18 must have an adult with them. Infants and younger children cannot be treated.
- Appointments begin on the hour, at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00. Allow roughly two hours for the shorter programs, from arrival to the last of the tea, and roughly two and a half for the longest two, plus about forty minutes on the road in each direction. The last appointment of the day, 18:00, has you back in Makadi Bay a little after nine.
- Swimwear is needed for the hammam, the sauna, the steam room and the jacuzzi. Robe, slippers, towels and toiletries are all supplied.
- Eat lightly beforehand rather than sitting down to a full meal, and arrive hydrated. A heavy lunch and a hot steam room make poor company.
- Please tell us as you book if you are pregnant, have an allergy, are carrying an injury or have any medical condition, so the therapist can adapt the treatment or advise you first.
- Soul Spa Wellness Club is inside the TK Royal in the InterContinental district of Hurghada, roughly forty minutes north of Makadi Bay along the coast road. Return transfers from anywhere in Makadi Bay are covered by the price; you are collected at your lobby and delivered back to it.
- Reserve now and pay later. Cancellation is free, and nothing is charged for the booking until the day itself.
